Skinner, a self-taught, Oakland-based artist, stars in a new show with Super Deluxe. “Drawing With Skinner” combines the vibes of the Bob Ross series “The Joy of Painting,” “Pee-wee’s Playhouse,” and “Wayne’s World.” Skinner, who makes paintings that combine psychedelic visions, pop culture, and other oddities, was featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 14. Even within the first few moments, those influences come through, as Skinner gives audiences his intro. “I’m going to be taking you on an art adventure,” Skinner says, in the first moments. “What kinds of things are we gonna draw on ‘Drawing with Skinner’? Maggots, worms, demons, portals, vampires, parasites, guts, who knows? It’s all depends on what the Wheel of Fun has fated for our measly souls.”
The artist created the show with Allen Cordell. The 25-minute first episode of the show features hip-hop producer/DJ The Gaslamp Killer. Upcoming episodes will include Buzz Osborne of the Melvins and Andree Vermeulen of the show “Angie Tribeca.” Check out the first episode below.
