Moments 2015 Brings Independent Art & Culture to Malaga, Spain

Coming this October, MOMENTS 2015 will bring together artists from all over the world to Malaga, Spain, contributing their art and sharing their processes with festival goers. Now in its second year, those featured in the festival's expansive workshops, screenings, mini-concerts and art exhibitions encompass subcultures of fine art, photography, music, tattoo design, skateboarding, and more. These include two solo exhibition offerings by Los Angeles based artist Tim Biskup (first featured in HF Vol. 2), known for his explosive and surreal character-driven works, and Vancouver based artist Andrew Pommier, who initially entered the scene with his commercial skateboard graphics.

These include two solo exhibition offerings by Los Angeles based artist Tim Biskup (first featured in HF Vol. 2), known for his explosive and surreal character-driven works, and Vancouver based artist Andrew Pommier, who initially entered the scene with his commercial skateboard graphics. Both artists will lead workshops for those who want to learn more about the thinking and techniques behind their latest works. Notably, MOMENTS 2015 marks the world premiere of its original group exhibition “LANDSCATE”, showcasing over 40 international artists hailing from the United States, Europe, Asia, and a 15 year-retrospecive of album cover designs from music label Alone Records. Roberto Rodríguez’s Colorful and Psychedelic Paintings of Nature

Spanish artist Roberto Rodríguez illustrates a fantastic vision of wildlife in his psychedelic paintings. Neon purple tigers and rainbow birds populate grand habitats, some clean and simple, others as lush as Henri Rousseau's jungle scenes. His art is almost child-like but filled with dimension by an overlaying of saturated colors, shapes and textures. Rodríguez is most inspired by the variations and changes of a sunset, something he tries to evoke in his work. Strips of paper are applied to each piece, which are colored with gradients until the desired effect is achieved.

Opening Night: Jeremy Fish’s “Yesterdays and Tomorrows” at FFDG

Jeremy Fish's solo show "Yesterdays and Tomorrows" at San Francisco's FFDG has a carefully planned installation. Black lines on the gallery's left wall outline a cartoon thought bubble that houses almost 20 years worth of drawings; on the parallel wall of the narrow space, mural-scale paintings hang inside the hollow outlines of cartoon bunnies painted directly on the room's surface. But at the opening night of "Yesterdays and Tomorrows," it was difficult to even get close enough to see these meticulous details. A huge crowd had amassed to celebrate an informal retrospective of one of San Francisco's most well-known artists from the past two decades.

Recap: Moments 2015 Art & Culture Festival in Malaga, Spain

Malaga, Spain recently played host to independent Art & Culture Festival MOMENTS 2015, which wrapped on October 24th. The event brought a taste of pop culture and art from all over the world to local university students at Escuela de Arte San Telmo in Malaga. We shared footage from the event's first year here on our blog, and today bring you a recap of its second installment. This year highlighted the work of Los Angeles based artist Tim Biskup (first featured in HF Vol. 2), who shared his talents in a workshop and showcased new character-driven abstract paintings in a solo exhibition at the school.
