Hi-Fructose and Squarespace Present Hyperrealistic Paintings by Kit King

Attention all artists! In partnership with our friends at Squarespace, Hi-Fructose will be highlighting five artists who are currently using Squarespace for their website or portfolio, to be featured on cctvta.com. This week we are featuring Ontario based artist Kit King, who in collaboration with her husband, creates large scale hyperrealistic oil paintings that portray her subjects in fragments. Her compositions feature tight crops of their faces, eyes, hands, and tattoos with plays on light and shadow to establish mood.  King labels herself as a recluse, and getting up close and personal with her subjects enables her to form personal connections to them.

The figures in Mo Di’s oil paintings on canvas appear as apparitions and transient, between reality and a dream. In her latest works, these surreal narratives reflect on femininity and life's stages. The artist has her first solo show in Shanghai in the upcoming "My Dream is a Cage" at FQ Projects. The show runs from April 22 through June 30 at the gallery.
The billowed rugs and other objects in Antonio Santin’s ghostly oil paintings are rendered with unsettling realism. The Madrid native works in "elaborate still-lifes," as he alters his subjects to create new realities. The artist taps into the tradition of Spanish Tenebrism and a sculptural background to dream up and execute these works on canvas. When photographed from a distance, the work still turns heads, with the viewer attempting to understand what he or she is seeing. He was featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 18 and was last featured on cctvta.com here.
The strain of imaginary realism found in Carrie Pearce’s oil paintings calls upon both 16th-century masters and the drawing style of the children she’s depicting. The artist says she creates "emotional portraits," rather than just portraits of people. She says her paintings are "aimed to entertain you and convey events real or imagined through images, improvisation and embellishment."
The oil paintings of Lukifer Aurelius carry a surreal and mystic energy, its subjects often in a transformative state. The Brisbane artist is part of a new duo show with Alex Garant at BeinArt Gallery in Australia titled "Seeing Between," running through May 27. The gallery says that the painter’s figures are “seemingly infused with fire or, at the very least, embers, striking a chord with perhaps our most primitive memories.”
